Martial
vs. Non Martial
Although Tai Chi is a martial art and an excellent one at that, none of
our exercises involve shouting at anybody or attacking them. Tai
Chi is carried out in a quiet, focused atmosphere. Some activities
do involve two people, but they are organised on a cooperative rather
than competitive basis.
If you are keen to learn the martial and self-defence aspects of Tai
Chi, classes will provide opportunities for students to develop these
skills.
► What is Qi-Gong ?
Qi-Gong is an essential element of Tai Chi practice. It can be practiced
as a discipline on its own, but one cannot have Tai Chi without Qi-Gong.
Its literal definition is "energy cultivation", and the practice
involves similar, slow movements to Tai Chi but with a stronger emphasis
on breathing deeply down into the Tan Tien (stomach). Like Tai
Chi, Qi-Gong has profoundly positive health effects on both the body and
the mind, increasing energy and vitality and promoting relaxation.
